Breaking rules depends on the context and whether it's a win/win for all concerned (I work in HR after all). All the other entrants entered into the spirit of the competition, the winner didn't. That seems inherently unfair in my book. That said, my comment was tongue in cheek but tinged with a sense of irony that a recruiter ignored the key selection criteria and made a decision apparently based on gut feel and likeability :-)
