1. What's the essence of your role?
- My current role is to lead the SKYCITY recruitment service, develop and implement recruitment strategies, policies, processes and systems, and to ensure the model delivers the benefits to SKYCITY with respect to cost savings, service delivery, best practice recruitment, and consistency of practice.
- The role is also responsible for enhancing the SKYCITY employment brand and the company’s reputation as an employer of choice across all target markets.
- After conducting a review, we are in the process of implementing a new internal model. This will build our internal capability and consists of a Sourcing Specialist, Recruitment Consultants, Para-Consultants, and an Administrator. The scope of services will include end to end recruitment, on-boarding, assistance with workforce planning, talent pool management and sourcing, and employment brand identification/development and communications.
- There are exciting times ahead for us as we move to establish a best practice recruitment model that delivers expert advice and support to the business.
- My previous roles have included Recruitment Management at NZ Police, Fletcher Building and a range of contracts in both general HR and recruitment in the health sector, social services, manufacturing, and FMCG.
- I am thoroughly enjoying being part of the hospitality and entertainment industry. Each recruitment model I have been responsible for implementing and managing has been very different given the varying industries and cultures, business strategies and objectives. For this reason, I continue to be challenged specialising in this area.
2. What does Recruitment 2.0 mean to you?
- While the evolution of web communities such as social networking sites is changing the way we do things, I believe we are not even close to realising the potential benefits for us in the recruitment industry. I am looking forward to working on this when our Sourcing Specialist starts with us and really starting to test their meaningfulness and value. We will be aiming to enhance communications, information sharing, creativity and collaboration.
- Personally, although I don’t always agree, it is good to hear other points of view and what is happening locally and globally. Also, learning about the initiatives and activities of others (and perhaps stealing a few!). This particular site has given me food for thought when someone raises a subject I hadn’t really thought much about. I have developed an appreciation for the willingness of others to share thoughts and information and enhance the knowledge of others. It would be great to see more participants in the chat threads.
3. With the economy entering hard times, what does this mean for you? Will you and your team be doing anything differently?
- I believe it is always important for a service delivery function to constantly evolve and adapt to internal and external changing factors. What works now and adds the most value for your organisation may not necessarily do so next week. While our businesses are currently resilient, we will continue to monitor how we can best deliver to candidates and internal clients cost effectively.
