It is still my opinion that unless you get your house in order you shouldn't start on something else ie SM. Isn't a community a "relationship based database"?

I don't think we should impose our value judgement on the guys at 38 seconds. One shouldn't knock tapping into one's own personal network (even if that is offline or in a retirement home).

I have just finished collating statistics studying the job ad "click through destination" and "posting methods" Recruiters are using on Twitter and Facebook. I looked at 100 different Australian Recruitment Agency/Recruiters who post job ads to Twitter or Facebook.

Consolidating Unofficial Social Networking Groups

Have you ever checked Facebook or any other social networking websites to see if there are any unofficial groups created about your organisation? "I used to work at", "I work at", etc

96% of Recruiters source Candidates through mainstream Job Boards

The RCSA has just released the latest Quarterly Business Manager Survey results for the 3rd Quarter 2009. Contained within the past 2 surveys, is a question regarding the "media used to source candidates". Although the survey is only a small sample of Recruitment Agencies across Australia & New Zealand, I have grouped together the past 2 survey results, to better represent any trends over the past 6 months.

Rejecting Candidates based on IP Address

We now rely on using technology in the recruitment process more than ever. But should we place 100% of our trust in rejecting candidates based solely on their IP address?

While browsing a number of job sites this morning, I spotted an interesting function on an overseas job board. The underlying job board software pre qualifies candidates based on their location (IP address).

Thanks for your digital beer gift. I tried to grab the bottle but I broke my computer screen as I lunged towards it.

@Suzanne, I will give you a call/email to discuss. Paul is right, the apps can sit in a users profile/page/group listing.

@Paul - I would suggest pages over groups. They both have the same functions really - wall, group discussions, member lists and so forth, and you can add applications to either. The pages are more seo friendly and easier to find/manage.

But again, you have to go back to your social networking plan. "What are you trying to achieve?"

Do you want to connect with candidates?
Protect/Enhance your brand?
Social group discussion etc...

One of the major discussion points that is raised when I talk with recruiters is they dont want individual recruiters connecting with candidates on their lists (ie if they leave they take the candidates/clients with them) as well protecting their database online. Remember - you can see who are members of what group/pages, whereas with applications the user memeberlist is hidden only for the owner.

@ Suzanne - EY were a "sponsored group" and paid (rumored) FB $50k half-yearly. I think FB has disestablished sponsored groups now in favour of 'Facebook Pages' which provides revenue via advertising. To set up customised boxes (eg job listings) one needs to develop an application. This is quite an industry and Thomas is obviously cutting out a niche. I think Thomas is referring to the $500 to develop an application that sits within a group or page - there could be say 3 apps per group/page.

@Thomas - would you recommend that one established a Group or Pages? From my perspective, Groups are easier for users to find but Pages are easier to advertise across the platform and to customise the features one wants. Correct?

Hi Thomas,

Are you saying you can do what EY did for $500 now?

I am most interested in using the Social Web for companies who want to recruit for themselves. Want to have a chat? I have had a look at your board and also your questions and it looks like we are on the same page. +64 27 360 456

Currently we are finishing off integration with facebook and linkedIN. It is currently in a live beta while we finish testing. We have implemented many small "social networking" functions. (not like Ning)

Other than that, we are creating around 5 - 10 facebook applications a week for recruitment agencies/job boards. One of my personal favorites is http://apps.new.facebook.com/revealingtalent/
